Conte a Paris Carres Crayons were invented in France in 1795 by Nicolas-Jacques Conte, and have since been used by many of the world’s greatest artists, including Picasso, Delacroix and Degas.

  • These hard pastels are made from a blend of natural pigments, kaolin clay and graphite.
  • They’re perfect for drawing and sketching on both smooth and textured surfaces.
  • Their firm, waxy texture means that they produce little dust, and their opacity makes them perfect for using on a dark background.
  • Each stick meansures 63mm long, with a 6mm square cross-section, although you can easily break them into smaller pieces or shape them into a chisel tip using sandpaper
